Challenger Learning Center
CHALLENGER MISSIONS FOR THE PUBLICCHALLENGER ADVENTURES (Ages 3-Adult)
Every Saturday, 2-3pm & 3:30-4:30pm at miSci (museum of innovation and science)
Join other museum visitors in this out-of-this-world experience! See what it's like to do experiments in space and take home a souvenir from your experience.
Based on NASA astronaut training, the Challenger Learning Center of the Capital Region at miSci allows participants to be part of a simulated mission to space in an innovative learning environment. Visitors become part of a crew of engineers and scientists on-board the space-craft. Like NASA astronauts, scientists, and engineers, visitors are assigned essential tasks and conduct critical experiments that they must execute for mission success.
To reserve a seat for a Challenger Adventure, please call 518-382-7890 x0. Children (3-12): Admission + $5, Adults: Admission + $10. Seniors: Admission + $8 ALL CHILDREN UNDER 7 MUST BE EACH ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT. All groups of children must have at least one adult present.
CHALLENGER MISSIONS FOR GROUPSBe a part of a crew of scientists and engineers in a simulated space mission at the NEW Challenger Learning Center at miSci. Missions tailored for your group, ages pre-K to adult. Participate in a simulated space mission with your:
birthday celebration • private party • team building event
You are part of a team performing the mission – essential tasks astronauts, scientists, and engineers perform for mission success. Work onboard the Spacecraft to perform critical experiments and activities and in Mission Control to monitor and guide the spacecraft crew. After a brief orientation, half the group launches into space on the space transporter while the other half works in Mission Control; halfway through the mission, the roles are switched.
HOW A CHALLENGER LEARNING CENTER MISSION SIMULATION WORKS:
Prior to group missions, educators and group leaders participate in a mission preparation workshop and receive curriculum to help students understand the mission objectives and the concepts to complete their mission and to work on communication skills, problem-solving, and team skills. Challenger Learning Center missions are learning environments embedded with activities and lessons aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Science Core Curriculum, and Common Core State Standards.
