Welcome to the Schenectady Museum and Suits-Bueche Planetarium’s key to identifying the type and age of General Electric household incandescent light bulbs. General Electric, founded by Thomas Edison in 1878, is the largest manufacturer of light bulbs in this country and possibly the oldest in the world as well. As a result, many people come to the museum’s archives with an old General Electric light bulb in their hands asking us to determine its age. With this key, you will be able to do this just by examining a few key features of your light bulb such as its base type, filament, and other attributes.
