The electrical firm of Pope, Edison and Co. at Menlo Park, NJ, began to diverge into separate channels of electrical development in 1877, and the latter organized the Edison Electric Light and Power Company.  Edison’s keen mind saw far beyond the telegraph and the telephone.  He became interested in other possibilities of this wonderful form of energy then on the threshold of revolutionizing the entire industrial world, seeing a great future for electricity in artificial light and the extension of electric power.
